Josh is getting closer to crawling. He pushes up on all fours, rocks back and forth, and often does so forcefully enough to slide his knees forward a bit. He can also use his arms to rotate himself — sometimes in a full circle. He’s a lot less finicky and “needy”, now that he can actually entertain himself a bit more.
Caleb’s utterances can often be three and four words long. I think that might be his limit at the moment. Sometimes it’s not very sentence-like, such as “Mommy-Daddy-Caleb-baby”, but oftentimes it actually conveys a fair bit of meaning. In the last few weeks, he has picked up replying “No” to questions (we had some older kids over for an afternoon, and he picked up a lot from them). Especially at first, he would look someone very directly in the eye, and shake his head, and say in a very matter-of-fact tone, “No.” He has also started to use it to indicate negation — his way of expressing the idea that this is not the red car is, “Red car — no.”
He doesn’t say ‘yes’ yet; he nods his head.
He also likes using the word “too”: “Josh awake. Caleb awake too! Mommy awake too! Bear awake too!”
A couple weekends ago, we saw a friend playing guitar in a bluegrass band at the farmer’s market. A few days afterward, Caleb took a piece of scrap wood, stood on a stepstool and informed me that he had a guitar. He swayed and sang “Aaaaaaeeeeeooooo” while picking with his fingers on the wood.
